This paper gives you an opportunity to interact with and reflect upon the approaches to the Bible of Christian theologians from around the world.

In your paper, you will interact with two theologians and how they approach the Bible.

For one of the theologians, you may pick any one of the Christians that you read in the Global Perspectives part of the course.

You will select one of these “well-loved texts” as the focus for your project.

Your Signature Project will have the following sections:

Introduction to the Project including a thesis statement (a one -sentence summary of how you will answer the question in the conclusion).
Discussion of the text itself showing your ability to state its historical/cultural and literary contexts. You will answer the question: what did this text say to its first hearers?
Discussion of your chosen Christian perspective. You will answer the question: how would your writer interpret/read this text in his/her context?
Discussion of the Lutheran perspective. You will answer the question: How does a Lutheran perspective shape the reading of this text? How is the text all about Jesus? How doe the text “translate” the reader?
Conclusion. You will answer the question: What have I learned about the process of interpreting the Bible through this exercise.

You should write this paper using standard academic English and follow the MLA style guide. It will likely take you five to eight pages to do so.

1. The student will then prepare a short article in the form of a ScienceDaily article that
would be accessible to the public. The article should be ~ 1000 words and should
cover:
•The importance of the work for advancing science and/or public welfare
•The data collected and methods used in the study
•The results of the study
•The implications of the study
•Future directions that might be of interest
2. Additionally, each student will select one data figure from the Results section of
the paper and provide a description & interpretation of that figure.
•What are the data in the figure?
•What are the axes in the figure? (dependent & independent variable)
•Are there any indications of statistical significance?
•Are there any trends evident?
•What is the take-home message from the figure?

Interview of School Business Manager or Chief Financial Officer
For this key assignment you are asked to:
1) identify and interview the person or persons in a K-12 school (yours or one you are familiar with)
responsible for the effective implementation of school budgeting and fiscal management
AND
2) write a critical analysis paper (12 pages max – it can be less) based on that interview.
Part 1: Interview – In most schools, your interview will be with the Business Manager (or similar title). In
smaller schools, this could also include the superintendent who works closely with the business
manager. In that case, you may want to visit with both. Schedule an interview time with the person(s) you
identify to gain their perspective on the learning objectives presented in this course.

Consider the major topics presented throughout this course and use the themes outlined below to guide
your questions and discussion. Guiding questions have been provided to help frame your interview but
they are not the only things you can ask. Think about things from the course that you are still unsure of
or have your own questions about and be sure to ask them also.

Guiding Questions:

• what functions are carried out by the Business Manager or the office they oversee?
• how/when is the budget built for each fiscal year? who is responsible?
• what budgeting model is used?
• who is responsible for approving the budget?

Part 2) Writing – After your interview, write a critical analysis paper based on this interview and the
content presented in this course using the guidance below and the rubric provided.
Introduction: Introduce your paper with background information on your school, persons interviewed
and the organization and content to be presented in the body of your paper.
Body: Organize the body of your paper by the themes of:
1) Budget Oversight
2) Sources of Revenue

3) Local Budgeting Practices
4) Current fiscal issues, trends, and challenges facing the district
5) Other themes that you may identify as important in the course of your interview.
Conclusion: Conclude your paper with a summary of your findings from the interview along with your
personal reflection and analysis.

Purpose
The conceptual frameworks introduced in this course have unlimited potential to help us draw meaningful conclusions about our observations. Films provide a creative and interesting way for you to collect, sort, and evaluate your observations and apply conceptual frameworks to make sense of what is on the big screen.
Instructions
1. Select and view one of the full-length feature films listed below under “Film Options.” They are all excellent films, I promise!
2. Choose a conceptual framework from the list of available options. It works best if you choose one with which you are most familiar/comfortable with.
3. Watch the film. You’ll probably need to watch it more than once, so do plan for that.
a. As you watch your film, ask, how does this conceptual framework/theory help me make sense of what I am observing? Take notes on the points that answer this question!
4. Create a strong argument and structure for your paper that applies one of the theories to draw meaningful conclusions about your observations.

Your discussion of examples from the film will present a clear and concise picture of a social world that your reader has no experience of, such that anyone reading your paper can grasp your argument and your use of the film as an illustration.

Additional Guidelines and Technical Requirements
Do not use external sources of information for this assignment. There is a lot of great information about sociological theory accessible through the internet. However, there are subtle variations in interpretations, explanations, and concepts to sources provided to you in this class.
You must use the required textbook and the readings I provide you in Canvas to inform your work. Out of course sources, including those posted in Yellowdig are not permitted.

All information must be presented in your own words. Quotes do not by themselves indicate comprehension of readings and can often hide your degree of comprehension. The ability to express yourself through writing is hard; it takes practice. Paraphrasing (rewriting definitions and explanations in your own words) is a great way to demonstrate your comprehension of a subject and develop your communications skills and abilities to convey that information to an audience.

Length and Formatting. The typical length for this paper is between 3 – 4 double-spaced pages (not including references page) with 1-inch margins all around. Please use a 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font. You do not need to include a title page or an abstract. APA formatted citations with page numbers included are expected. You will have two APA formatted references on your references page. One for your textbook and one for the film.

Personal Wellness Reflection

Based on the spiritual, emotional, and burnout assessment resources in the topic Resources and any other guidelines from your field of study, write a 350-500-word self-care plan that includes the following:

How to deal with compassion fatigue and burnout.
How to promote your own mental, physical, and spiritual health.
How your self-care impacts your ability to care for others.
APA style is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
